A group of young athletes after the liberation of Thessaloniki by the Ottoman yoke was looking for reassembling through sports. In 1914 they founded ARIS football team and as an emblem they chose “The resting God of War”, a statue of Skopas which is exhibited in the museum of Rome. The characteristics that distinguish the ancient god, beyond the athletic power, race passion and combativeness is the pomp, respect and majesty. The colors yellow and black, as a sign of respect to the Byzantine Empire until today suggest the youth, joy, vitality and seriousness towards it.
