The Best Goal award of the 7th matchday was awarded to Thodoris Vasilakakis playing for Xanthi, who topped the competition organised by Super League Greece, the Panhellenic Association of Professional Players (PSAP) and NOVA. The award was presented by the president of the veteran players of Xanthi, Babis Hatzimestis.
After the ceremony, the Xanthi player stated:
On the goal:
This goal was mostly the result of an instinct move. I saw the ball coming, I saw that the goalkeeper was a bit out of his posts and I took the shot. The ball ended in the nets and I saw my choice was right.
On the campaign from now on:
This goal was a boost for us to continue having good away displays. However, it is still very soon in the campaign. There is a long way to go in the championship given that we have not even played one third of it. The thing is that we need to keep having good displays and we are doing well on this account. I believe there will be more beautiful goals as well as personal distinctions, provided we keep on working. We want to go higher.
On the fact that they face problems when playing at home:
In Xanthi, the problem is that our game looks predictable. This is a concern for us and we must change it in order to be able to score goals in home matches too. But we are currently in a very good condition and I believe we will have a good display against Asteras Tripolis and win our first home match.
Mr Hatzimestis stated the following:
I am really happy to see a good man and a good player such as Vasilakakis receive this award for a great achievement. We are happy with every goal the team scores and the great victories such as the one against Panathinaikos. I hope Thodoris will continue scoring beautiful goals and contributing to our team.
