This week's interview: Pedro Conde, PAS GIANNINA

10 March 2017, 15:06

The PAS GIANNINA Spanish striker Pedro Conde has already scored 13 goals so far and is definitely having a productive season.

Pedro Conde replied to the questions of the fans and, among other things, pointed out that "Ioannina is a very beautiful city and the people are amazing. The truth is that they are very much alike the people in the Spanish city I was living and this makes me feel much more comfortable; I am very satisfied."

The full interview of the Spanish striker of PAS GIANNINA:

Question by Leonidas Serepas

What are your hobbies?

Pedro Conde: "I like doing different things: going for a walk with one of my teammates, going for a coffee or staying at home to watch a movie or a TV series; however, I basically enjoy going out with my teammates, mainly my Spanish teammates, and going for a coffee or having dinner when it's our day off training."

Question by Dimitris Houliaras

Which players are your icons?

Pedro Conde: "The truth is that there are many modern good strikers such as Bayern Munich's Lewandowski, or Chelsea's Costa, or Barcelona's Suárez; they are world-class strikers and the strikers I pay attention to. However, I do not follow any specific standards since I look at all the strikers of all clubs both in the Greek and the Spanish championship as well as from other championships. But I do not have a specific icon."

Question by Dinos Hr.

Are you happy with the team and the fans?

Pedro Conde: "Of course! I am happy both with the team and the fans, our supporters. The team welcomed me since my first day here, with their arms open as we say in Spain. The fans did the very same thing. They are fans that thank us for the effort we put on the pitch. The truth is that both the fans and the team welcomed me warmly and I am very happy about it."

Question by Vangelis Letsios

Are you happy with your decision to come to Greece?

Pedro Conde: "Yes, the truth is that I am happier with each passing day. I initially had my doubts, but with every passing day, I am happy I made this decision, namely to leave Spain and come to Greece."

Question by Eleftherios Evangelou

In your opinion, which is the most quality player in the Greek championship?

Pedro Conde: "There are many quality players in the Greek championship not only in one club but in many, not only in AEK, but in PAOK, Olympiacos, Panathinaikos and other clubs. I believe that all clubs have quality players, all 16 clubs, and I cannot set anyone apart right now because I would need to list many. To be objective, I have to say that there are many quality players in Greece and I cannot just name one; it's many players in many clubs."

You have been moving to a new club each season in your career. Is adjusting easy? Would you rather spend many years in one club?

Pedro Conde: "Yes, I have been with playing for a different club each season and this is because I wanted to add quality to my career and many times I left a club because I believed that the next club would add quality to my career. This has both advantages and disadvantages.

A disadvantage is that when arriving to a new club, most of your teammates are new. An advantage that you meet many professional teammates and friendships are born and, at the end of the day, this is what's left when football is over.

On whether I would stay in a club for many years: If I see that the club fulfils some criteria and has ambitions and I am happy with the city and the club, then I wouldn't mind staying for many years but I do not dwell on this, I am a footballer that wants to improve every day and what will be, will be.

Question by Giorgos Katzelis

Do you like the city of Ioannina?

Pedro Conde: "Of course I like this city a lot. As I said before, I came here having many doubts and uncertainties, but with each passing day, I feel confident I made a good choice and took a good decision to leave Spain and come to Greece and the truth is that I like Ioannina a lot and am very happy here.

I was very surprised by the city, it's very beautiful and the people are amazing. The truth is that they are very much alike the people in the Spanish city I was living and this makes me feel much more comfortable; I am very satisfied."

Question by Konstantinos Tragoudaras

You have already beaten some great legends that were players of PAS Giannina and you are after the record of scoring 16 goals in the 1st National Division by Thalis Tsirimokos – the most goals scored by a PAS player in the top league. How does this make you feel and which is your goal with PAS Giannina?

Pedro Conde: "Despite the fact that I have beaten some records, this is not what I think of right now. My characteristic as a player is that I care for the team and to tell the truth, I care about the team winning every Sunday and not about me beating a record.

The truth is that strikers live for the goal and if the team wins and I have helped the team win, or at least not lose, then I am very satisfied. Beating records serves nothing if the team loses all matches.

I prefer caring about the team and the team winning and I don't think about records. I also don't think about what I want to do with PAS Giannina, I don't plan for the future, but I look at every day.

I now think about Saturday's match and when this is over, I will think about winning the next match; and this is the only thing I think about, I do not think about whether I will play in the Europa League or the Champions League with PAS Giannina.

I only think about each day and do not set any limits. I believe that a player who sets limits is not a good player. We have to live each day and each game and even if this sounds utopian, this is how it is. I also believe that this is the best thing and that we enjoy it more and this is why I only make plans as far as the next match.

What is your dream as a footballer?

All footballers have dreams and these dreams revolve around winning a competition with your team, however in this case with PAS Giannina my dream would be to win the championship or the Cup, but as I said before, I do not think about that right now; we will fight for this when the time comes.

However, when a championship starts, I think about winning all matches and if, at the end, we have the possibility to fulfil a dream, then we will fight to make it come true. Another dream is to participate with my team in a European competition.

Question by Spyros Sourelis

If a Segunda División club that is set to get promoted asked to sign you, would you leave PAS Giannina and the Greek championship?

Pedro Conde: "I do not know whether I would leave PAS Giannina if a Segunda División club asked for me. I am not in such a situation right now and don't think about this. I would have to take into account many things.

I would have to take into account mainly the sporting plan because I already play in the country's top league and a great club. I always take into account the sporting plan and this is why I decided to come to PAS Giannina, because they have a solid sporting plan based on which we also participate in the Europa League and the club has always been at the top places of the classification list the past years.

Therefore, I don't know what I would do because this is an imaginary scenario, not a real one. The only thing that is real for me is how I will win the match and the three points that are very important and that's it. I only plan as far as the next match.

Question by Kleanthis Gepis

In your opinion, which characteristics should a modern striker playing at top level should have? Which characteristics do you have and which should you improve?

Pedro Conde: "A footballer must definitely have the conditions to play football. I believe that the most important thing for a footballer is the most basic one: controlling and passing and, following this, the most important thing is the disposition, the psychology and I believe that having a good disposition and a clear mind is everything.

Question by Dimitris Papageorgiou

What are the differences between the Greek and Spanish football?

Pedro: "I believe that there are few differences between the Greek and Spanish football, because it's still football.

In Spain's top division, as well as in Greece's top division, football is football. It doesn't matter where you play.

The truth is that there is a small difference because teams here cannot play so much, namely if I control the ball with my back to the goal, they do not let me turn around and this kind of football is much harder than it is in Spain. In Spain, they let you play a bit more football and it's not as hard as it is here."

Question by Thanasis Tsodoulos

Which is the happiest moment in your career?

Pedro Conde: "I have had some good moments in my career both on a sports, personal and individual level: I was named top scorer in various Spanish championships but I do not count this. I believe that one of the best moments in my career was a promotion in the next division, in Spain. I wish there will be a better moment, as I said before, when I will win a competition with my club."

Question by Konstantina Sakellaropoulou

What do you think of the atmosphere in the Zosimades stadium?

Pedro Conde: "The atmosphere and the general feeling in the stadium are very good in particular when hosting a big club; the fans participate and this feels nice. At least I feel more of a footballer when there are many fans in the stands that support the team and watch football. I like this and I hope many fans will come to support us in the remaining matches in order to celebrate as many home victories as possible."

THE WINNER OF THE DRAW FOR THE SIGNED SOUVENIR BY PEDRO CONDE, OFFERED BY FC PAS GIANNINA, IS MR KONSTANTINOS TRAGOUDARAS.
