The MVP and the Best Goal awards of the 28th matchday were awarded to Tasos Bakasetas and Karim Ansarifard respectively, who topped the competition organised by Super League, the Panhellenic Association of Professional Players (PSAP) and NOVA.
After the ceremony, the Panionios players stated:
Karim Ansarifard:
"I want to congratulate my best friend in the squad, Bakasetas, who won the MVP award of the championship for this matchday. This is how football works, when you are a striker you may score some special goals and on another occasions you may score easy goals. It was a good week for me because I scored a beautiful goal and won the Best Goal award of the week. I want to say that this goal belongs to the whole team, the whole club, all the people involved in the team, and all the players.
I dribbled a bit before reaching the box and then took the shot and scored the goal. I am sure that I had scored a goal such a goal in my mind when I was a little boy and am glad that I scored it in real life too."
Tasos Bakasetas:
"First of all, I want to congratulate Karim for his exceptional goal. We had a bit of a disagreement because he said that this is not the best goal he's scored in his career, but I saw it and I believe that this is the most beautiful one. He deserves to be congratulated, he is an exceptional man and an exceptional professional; we happen to share the same room and are very good friends.
It's good to win awards because it boosts your confidence and the team's confidence as well. But personal achievements are not that important. The most important thing is that the team achieved its goal: we have secured our place in the top five positions of the classification list and this is what gives me great pleasure, even just thinking about it. I look after my team, and not after myself.
On his confidence:
My confidence comes from the trust everyone shows to me in the team: for example my coach who gave me a position and some additional elements; these are the main reasons behind my confidence.
I do not have a roof. I cannot set myself a limit. I cannot set a roof. What I want is to improve year by year and to go as high as possible. I dedicate this award to my teammates because had it not been for them, I would not have done anything."
