Super League supports the children of the "Ark of the World"

3 April 2015, 15:00

A delegation of the Super League together with the president Giorgos Borovilos visited today the "Ark of the World" a Non-Profit Organisation of Special Care and Protection of Mothers and Children; the organisation looks after children living under conditions of neglect and abandonment, suffering indifference in their everyday life.

The goal of the Super League is to raise the awareness of the public as regards the daily struggle of the "Ark of the World", with the selfless contribution of volunteers supporting father Antonios and offering love and care to approximately 400 children, from infants to 18-year-old children.

The Super League President Giorgios Borovilos stated: "We came today to the hospitable 'Ark of the World' to send a message of solidarity and support and to congratulate father Antonios and his assistants on the significant work of the Organisation to society and children in particular. Super League always supports any activity aiming at raising the awareness of the general public. The social initiatives of the Super League will continue in the future too, always aiming at supporting the efforts trying to improve the living conditions of our fellow humans who are in dire straits due to unfortunate circumstances. I call all fans, regardless of their club of preference, to show their support to the work of the 'Ark of the World' by offering their moral support and some of the necessities required for the children of the 'Ark'."

NOTE TO REPORTERS

The "Ark of the World" was founded in 1998 by father Antonios Papanikolaou, fuelled by his love for children and his wish to create a haven of affection and care for the destitute children of Athens.  These children, mainly Greek children but also children from other countries, experience the affectionate and peaceful environment of the "Ark of the World", away from poverty, hunger, racism and suffering of our society.

In November 2003, during a moving ceremony in the building of the Old Parliament, the "Ark of the World" was presented with an award by the President of Greece Mr Konstantinos Stefanopoulos as one of the best Greek organisations for the care of children.

Also, the European Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia chose the "Ark of the World" as "the brightest example against racism and xenophobia in Greece for the year 2003." In December 2004, the Ark received an award by UNESCO.

On 5 December 2005, during a ceremony in the Presidential Mansion, the "Ark of the World" was again awarded by the President of Greece Mr Karolos Papoulias as one of the best organisations in Greece for the care of children. More recently, on 30/12/2008 Father Antonios Papanikolaou, priest and founder of the non-government organisation "Ark of the World", was presented with an Award by the Academy of Athens as a Greek that excels in humanism and social virtue, for his exceptional voluntary work for poor and abandoned children.
