Super League holds the 14th place among 170 football leagues, for the period between 1 January 2014 and 31 December 2014, according to the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS), climbing 8 places in comparison with 2013.
According to the IFFHS the world ranking, determined annually since 1991, is based on the club national (Super League OPAP Championship and Greek Cup) and international competitions and results (Champions League and Europa League), as the International Federation of Football History and Statistics considers this data as objective indicators of any national championship.
The Greek Championship of the Super League is on an ascending trajectory according to the IFFHS indicators, whereas the first three spots in world ranking are held by the Spanish, Italian and English Championship, respectively.
The Super League President Mr Giorgios Borovilos stated: "The 14th place of the Super League in world ranking proves the football dynamics in our country, as well as the prospects for further development, despite the problems it faces. These problems are numerous and it would definitely be a great mistake to try to sweep them under the carpet of a survey that is favourable to the Super League Championship. We need teamwork and the willingness to look for jointly acceptable solutions, so that we can all try to seek a brighter future for Greek football. The collective scorn does not contribute to finding solutions; what we need is to seek common ground, initially even on a few basic and fundamental issues, so that we can pursuit the best possible outcome for football itself."
