Composedly and prudently and with the responsibility of my institutional role as the president of Super League, I need to point out that the target of the Government and Professional Football is to come up with solutions to decades-long problems that have created a stifling environment and not to postpone these issues.
In this framework, I had a discussion with the Deputy Minister of Sports Mr Kontonis in order to examine the ways in which we can improve the conditions of staging the current Championship, as well as the conditions for the new one.
As regards the intention of the Deputy Minister to suspend the Super League Championship, I pointed out that this is not a solution to the issues that indeed torment Greek football.
There is not a single fan and citizen in this country that believes the suspension of the Championship will solve the issues of violence, suspicion and disrepute.
In this context, I proposed to the Deputy Minister of Sports the sanctioning of perpetrators participating in violent incidents.
The enforcement of the laws, the strengthening of the institutional framework, the open and sincere collaboration of all bodies, can help football and society "breathe".
In the upcoming meeting of the Board of Super League, I will inform the members about the crucial issues raised by Mr Kontonis regarding the electronic ticket, the fan clubs and a more stringent Disciplinary Code of the Hellenic Football Federation.
I do not turn a blind eye. The responsibilities of Football are real. Both us, the Football Clubs and the officials are responsible for what is happening in Greek Football.Nonetheless, through dialogue and the implementation of the laws, we need to come up with concrete solutions that will improve our football.
