Ronald Vargas Interview

28 August 2015, 14:16

Ronald Vargas, the 28-year-old attacking midfielder of AEK, who also plays in the National Team of Venezuela, replied to the questions of the fans and pointed out that "the leader is the club itself. The most important thing is for us to be a team," at the same time saying that "I knew that AEK were one of the best clubs in Greece. I also knew that they were temporarily playing in the second division, but remained a great club. Not only in Greece, but also on an international level."

Question by Stavros Brayannis, Konstantinos Gkinos

What is the goal set by the club that will determine whether this season is successful or not?

Our goal is to win titles, because we are talking about a great club that wishes to keep improving. We are therefore working on this and we try to win.

Question by Agamemnonas Bakakos

What is the most important factor that will determine whether AEK will fulfil their goals this season, in your opinion?

The most important thing is for us to be a team.  To create a uniform team, to be united both in good times and in bad. In every good or bad moment we may face. I believe that this is the most important thing.

Question by Panagiotis Tzitzinas

What was the first thought on your mind when you found out that AEK were interested in you?

I knew that AEK were one of the best clubs in Greece. I also knew that they were temporarily playing in the second division, but remained a great club. Not only in Greece, but also on an international level. I was immediately interested in their proposal and decided to come play for them.

Question by Lefteris Zahariou, Panagiotis Salonikidis

What was the reason behind your decision to continue your career in AEK?

The reason was the immediate and true interest AEK's people showed for me. When they prove they want you that much – and they in fact had expressed their interest since last season, when the club was playing in an even lower division—then you can only accept.

Question by Periklis Triantafyllis, Kostas Goulas

What is your best position in the field in your opinion? As a 10 behind the striker or in the wings?

I like to play behind the striker, as a second forward, so as to find more open spaces. I also wish to contribute in the team's building, from this position.  However, I also like playing in the wings sometimes. More on the left wing. But I don't care where I play. The coach will decide this. I will play where he tells me to play.

Question by Argyris Stratikis

What did you think of the AEK fans in the match against Platanias?

The fans in the Olympic Stadium were truly amazing. In the friendly with Sevilla too, but even more in the first match of the championship against Platanias. Not only because I scored, but also because this was the premiere of the season, because we won and mainly because there were more people in the stands. The fans were amazing. It's really important for us to be playing before this audience.

Question by Christos Tsitseklis

Who is the teammate that you have developed the best relationship with?

We are all a family. It's natural to have a closer relationship with those speaking Spanish, but I can say that I have an equally good relationship with everyone else.

Question by Dimitris Athineos

What is your target regarding goals and assists for the new year?

I am not so much a scorer as I am an assist man. It would be ideal if I could get around 10-15 assists, although this also depends on how your teammates make us of your passes. I cannot really tell about the goals. I don't expect to score many because my main job is to give passes.

Question by Constantinos Lekkas, Dimitris Sergoudis

The team needs a leader. Do you think you can be this leader?

I don't really like talking about these things. The leader is the club itself. The most important thing is for us to be a team.  I would even say that our leader is the kit manager, "Mitsi" (Nikos Koromilas), who has everything ready for us and all begin with him. For me, the leader is a group of players fighting all together for the same target. In modern football, you cannot depend on one player. Everyone is necessary.

Question by Lefteris Koutsogoulas

What would you like to say to the fans and supporters of AEK?

What I want to say is that I feel very good here, especially since my team has kicked off the championship successfully. I experienced two matches before a fantastic crowd and I expect people will keep supporting us. Not only in good times but in bad as well, because there will be bad times too.
