The MVP award of the 23rd matchday was awarded to Nikos Korovesis playing for PAS Giannina, who topped the competition organised by Super League, the Panhellenic Association of Professional Players (PSAP) and NOVA. The award was presented by the Board member of FC Giannina and former Mayor of Ioannina, Mr Nikos Gontas.
After the ceremony, the PAS Giannina player stated:
"This is an important award for me. It boosts my morale and my psychology in order to continue. The team has developed a lot in terms of play and this helped me to prove myself. This award also belongs to my teammates and the coaching staff. I wouldn't have won it were it not for them. We have a difficult match ahead of us following the last three successful results. We have to stay focused in order to keep this good display up."
On whether PAS Giannina can have a fourth consecutive win, he commented: "I believe it's time. We will play to win. We have a quality team and I believe this will be a really difficult match since our opponent also wants very much to win; however, I believe that we will manage to be the winners."
On the changes following the appointment of Petrakis as PAS Giannina coach: "Psychology is really important in football. We needed a boost so change could come. The playing part is also important. The way you enter the pitch to play. However, psychology is everything."
On the fatigue following the quick start of the preparation period: "It was an odd summer. We started really early and the doubt on whether we would participate in the European competitions or not really affected us. Our fatigue was great. The fact that we did not participate in the European competitions dampened our spirit a bit. But this is how football works. I am certain this was a factor too."
On the match against Panionios which is going through difficult times: "We need to take advantage of this. They will be playing with their back against the wall. They will be hard pressed. We will not be so stressed and I believe that if we play smart, we will win the match."
Finally, as regards the championship from now on, he pointed out: "We feel more confident following the three consecutive wins."
Mr Gontas stated the following:
"January was a really difficult month for the club's performances. But this is football. We call all fans to support the team when it does not do well. I am honoured to be presenting the most valuable player award to Nikos Korovesis, a splendid young man. He plays for a historical club which is greatly supported by the fans. Giannina is a traditional football city. I am certain that if we all stand by the footballers, they will distinguish themselves both in domestic and European competitions. We were wronged last season. We fought and won this fight with the HFF. We lost unfairly at European courts. However, this great injustice gives us strength to be ready and do as best possible this season. I wholeheartedly wish Nikos Korovesis, who really deserved the MVP award, all the best; and to be called to the Greek National Team because he deserves it. Also, to achieve as many distinctions with our club as possible, on a European level too.
