The MVP award of the 27th matchday was awarded to Marcus Berg playing for Panathinaikos, who topped the competition organised by Super League, the Panhellenic Association of Professional Players (PSAP) and NOVA. The ceremony was held at the "Georgios Kalafatis" Sports Centre and the award was presented to the Swedish striker by the goalkeeping coach of the Panathinaikos Academy, Vangelis Lappas.
After the ceremony, the Panathinaikos player stated:
On the match against PAOK: "It was a great team display. This was a difficult match since there were no fans in the stands, however we managed to win the three points; I played well. I scored three goals, gave three assists and am really happy."
On receiving the award: "It's of course a great honour to be given an award, however I would give back any personal awards in return for a team title. Because this is the reason we train every day. We train in order to win matches and win the team a title. I hope that we will now focus on the play-offs in order to win a place in the Champions League qualifying rounds. This is our goal at the moment."
On his health issues and his return on the pitch: "I feel better with every passing day. I train more intensely every day and I feel increasingly better. I hope next week to join the team training and we will see after that. We will take it one step at a time, however I feel better and hope to be 100% read for the play-offs. However, I need to be quite careful because given the problem I had, I shouldn't stress myself very much. We will see, however I feel better and optimistic."
On Panathinaikos' performance in the last matches: "Every team has its ups and downs. We do not perform so well during this periεod, however I hope we will change this because we have many matches to play in the play-offs. We have a big roster and we are all really eager to win the matches and achieve good results in order to succeed in our goal."
On whether Panathinaikos could have achieved something better in the Championship: "Of course we could have had a better campaign because we had good odds. I believe that after the derby against Olympiacos our performance deteriorated a bit and the reason behind this is the mentality. We lost three points and we did not manage to return to our normal level after that. However, play-offs are different. We need to win every match and seize our opportunity. I believe we have a good change to reboot, to play a good game in the last match of the regular season and then focus 100% during the last six matches."
Mr Lappas stated the following:
"We are very happy in Panathinaikos for having in our club a man and a player such as Berg. I wish him to be healthy and score many more goals. I believe that what distinguishes Marcus is his character. I believe his character both on and off the pitch is his greatest qualification."
