The Best Goal award of the 6th matchday was awarded to Marcus Berg playing for Panathinaikos, who topped the competition organised by Super League, the Panhellenic Association of Professional Players (PSAP) and NOVA. The award was presented by Mr Dimitris Saravakos.

After the ceremony, the Panathinaikos player stated:

It was a beautiful goal. Gordon (Schildenfeld) made a long pass almost from the halfway line. I was between two defenders, trapped the ball with my chest, at the same moment turned and took the shot. It was a nice finish and a beautiful goal.

Was this one of the most beautiful goals you have ever scored?

It could be. I do not remember my goals so well, but it may have been one of the most beautiful goals I have ever scored. It was a quality goal, a good one-touch, a good finish and I am satisfied.

Do you believe that Panathinaikos gets back on pace gradually? This latest matchday match may have been the best match for the club this season.

I believe that it was a good display for the team. We can certainly play better, we can improve even more, but I believe that this was one of our best matches this season given our attitude on the pitch.

You are in good shape. You score goals and help your team. Do you feel reborn in Panathinaikos?

I have said before that the most important thing is to be in good shape. I feel I am on a good level now and can play well. I have proven this, I can improve more and contribute more. I was not fit for a long spell and since the moment I came here, I feel free to do what I want during training and in matches. And this of course makes me confident.

Is returning to the Swedish National Team among your goals?

Of course it is and I hope to play for the National Team again. This is my dream. I train every day, I try to play well and I hope to be called to the National Team again. I have played for it before and hope to play again in the future. I hope they will call me back in the National Team.


What would you like to say to the fans that voted your goal as best goal of the 6th matchday?

Thank you for voting for me. It is very nice to be receiving such an award and I thank you for it.

This is a minor trophy. Would you like to conclude the season with a greater trophy?

Yes, certainly! This is a personal trophy, but one does not play football to win personal trophies. I wish to win a trophy with the club and to achieve this, we will all need to play well and do our best to help the team. From my part, I am doing my best and hope that the club will conclude the season with a trophy.
