The BEST GOAL award for the 3rd matchday was awarded on Friday, September 21, to Liam Lawrence playing for PAOK, who topped the competition organised by Super League, the Panhellenic Association of Professional Players (PSAP) and NOVA.
Liam Lawrence's first goal while playing for PAOK did not only mean that his team made a comeback to finally win the match against Asteras Tripolis, but was also voted as best goal for the 3rd matchday. One of the sponsors of FC PAOK, Babis Papachristou, gave away the award to the Irish player of PAOK, while the player stated: "It is a great honour for me to win such an award in this short time I play for the club and I wish to thank those who voted this goal as the best goal. It is true I have won similar awards in England and more specifically in the Premier League, where I have scored a really nice goal with Sunderland."
- This goal was connected with PAOK's win and your playing as a second striker for the club. Do you enjoy playing in this position, can PAOK start a winning streak in the championship?
"I… enjoyed playing next to Klaus (note: Stefanos Athanasiadis), I have good teammates and the goal was a result of the team effort and was scored at a crucial moment when we really needed it to make a comeback in the match. That is why I am grateful for it…"
- Tomorrow PAOK plays against Xanthi. You played your first match with PAOK in the relevant friendly match in Toumpa. What do you think the outcome will be tomorrow?
"It will be another difficult match. We have to play well in order to get the three points that we need to remain in the top positions of the ranking. We should not underestimate our opponents…"
- Do you have any goals regarding the goals you wish to score for PAOK?
"If I continue playing in the same position (note: as a striker), I will have to score much more goals, whereas if I play as midfielder, my main concern is the assists. As long as we win, it matter not who scores the goals (note: he smiles)."
- Since you are player motivated and inspired by the fans in the stands, for this particular match for which PAOK has sold many tickets and there will be many fans in the stadium, do you believe that the fans will be the team's 12th player or is it your focus that counts most?
"Yes, I believe that, when there are many fans in away matches, they are proven useful and particularly when they have such a strong presence and they chant continuously and vigorously, we can say that they are the 12th player," concluded the offensive midfielder of PAOK.
