The Best Goal award of the 1st matchday was awarded to Kostas Fortounis of Olympiacos, who topped the competition organised by Super League Greece, the Panhellenic Association of Professional Players (PSAP) and NOVA. The award was presented by the Vice President of FC Olympiacos, Mr Savvas Theodoridis.
After the ceremony, the Olympiacos player pointed out:
"I always try to do my best. I try to improve through the training sessions." The year kicked off ideally with a very beautiful goal. I thank all the fans that voted for me. And I hope to go on like this."
Is this one of the most beautiful goals you have scored? Do you remember having scored a goal like this before?
"No, this is one of the most beautiful goals. I have of course scored other goals. I just believe this was one of the best I have ever scored."
Mr Theodoridis stated the following:
"Kostakis is like my son. I have met his parents. His father and his mother are amazing. I know him since his first days in Olympiacos. He then became a great player. I lately see several journalists talking about Kostas. About whether he played well or not. Things like that. They have no right because most of them are totally football-ignorant and they should not be talking about Kostas, the only Greek player that not only knows how to play football, he is also the best player in Greece. I believe that he is the best "ten" since Karapialis. He is by far the best "ten" and the most important player in Greek football right now, with a very good perspective to have a good international transfer. Kostas will continue like this in Olympiacos and he will become even better because he is very hard-working. Kostas will be amazing in the second round. Fans should come to the stadium to enjoy him. Those journalists should not come to the stadium at all. I disregard all of them because I hear them all the time stating pointless things and they have no idea about football. I wish him all the best in his life. I wish him to improve because I do not want him not evolving. He has potential. We will all stand by him. I want the fans to applaud him every Sunday."
