The MVP and Best Goal awards for matchday 20 were awarded to Giorgos Giakoumakis playing for AEK, who topped the competition organised by Super League Greece, the Panhellenic Association of Professional Players and NOVA. The award was presented by Mr G. Karafeskos.
The award was presented to the AEK striker by the old veteran of the club Yorgos Karafeskos who pointed out:
"I wish him health; it is nice to have him in the first team, given that he comes from a small club, he seems to be a talented striker. In the old times, AEK had strikers such as Nestoridis and Mavros. He must go on like this, to make a name for himself in AEK, to love the club because AEK is an idea, is the best club and it is an honour for every Greek player to play for this team. I wish him success and good health."
The ΑΕΚ player said:
On receiving the award and the words of Karafeskos: "It is a great honour for me, I thank him for his kind words. I hope that through my work we will be successful both on a team and on a personal level. I thank the fans that voted for me; this is just the beginning. I want to win many more awards and I want my goals to lead to titles and victories."
On whom he dedicates the awards to: "I dedicate them to my family who support me every day and to the fans."
On whether, as regards his injury, the saying that "everything happens for a reason" is true: "When you get injured, you do not think that everything happens for a reason. Now that it is in the past and I have returned, I believe that it is true. The injury was a setback, I stayed off the pitch for a long time, but I have returned and hope to not go through this again soon."
On whether the participation in three competitions is a problem or an incentive for AEK: "It may become a problem given the fatigue it causes, but it is also a blessing because our efforts are rewarded since we are within our target in three competitions. We want to make it as far as possible in Europe and win the double in Greece."
On whether he wants to stay in AEK for many years or to play for an international club at some point: "Every young Greek player definitely dreams of playing abroad, but I play for a very big club, I have bonded and I only think about winning titles, stay for many years and then come what may."
On the match against Asteras: "We must definitely not think about the unlucky result of the first round. We only think about this match; we want to win the three points and we will do everything, we only focus on this."
On his entering and the goal against Olympiacos: "I would like to play more, everyone would when they do not play a lot. I believe I will make it with time. When you come in as substitution at the end, you try to do something. This is a bit heavy for me, but I am slowly finding my step and all will be better from now on and I will help the team much more."
On whether his scoring his first goal with AEK in the derby was ideal: "I was asked this question before and I said that from the moment I joined AEK, I have countless dreams. One of these dreams was to score in a derby, but I could never dream it would be done like this. It is amazing and I hope to do it many more times in the future and the team to win more times like this. Goals boost the strikers' psychology and strike; the start has been made and things will be better."
On whether this was the highlight in his career: "Up until the goal, the highlight of my career was signing with AEK. This goal is now the highlight in my career and at the same time the most important goal I have scored so far."
On how easy it is to focus on the match against Asteras following the victories in the derbies: "It is very hard, I will not lie, to be down to earth. These were two great successes and you usually have to stop there. We must get over them, we play against Asteras and if we win, we will still get three points. If something goes wrong, the victory in Karaiskakis will be pointless."
