The MVP and the Best Goal awards of the 17th matchday were awarded to AEK players Giannis Anestis and Hélder Barbosa respectively, who topped the competition organised by Super League, the Panhellenic Association of Professional Players (PSAP) and NOVA. The awards were presented by Mr Ilias Atmatsidis and Mr Manolis Vavourakis.
After the ceremony, Hélder Barbosa said:
"This award is more important to me given that it's the goal that gave us the three winning points. Be it an impressive goal or a plain goal, it makes me even happier.
The ideal thing will be for the team to be winning and amassing the points no matter where we play. It doesn't matter whether I score or one of my teammates scores; this is very good for the team. We will need to keep getting better."
Giannis Anestis said:
"This award is a proof of my work. I am very happy for this award. I wish to dedicate it to my family and the people I love and are by my side right now. I will keep working in order to improve and help AEK achieve its goals. This award is more important because it was combined with a victory. It proves that I helped my team win three more points that are important for the future."
Mr Atmatsidis said:
"Anestis has tremendous physical qualities, but these are not enough for top-tier football. He has room for improvement and he can improve even more in order to be able to defend the goal post both of AEK and the National Team. These last years, Greece has not had a really good keeper. There are of course some talents and we hope to improve even more so that the National Team will not face any issues. There is of course right now a good and stable goalkeeper such as Karnezis, but one is not enough. We need more keepers for the National Team."
