The Best Goal award of the 16th matchday was awarded to Diamantis Chouchoumis playing for Panathinaikos, who topped the competition organised by Super League, the Panhellenic Association of Professional Players (PSAP) and NOVA. The award was presented by the U-20 coach of Panathinaikos, Vangelis Samios.
After the ceremony, the Panathinaikos player stated:
On his maiden goal as a Panathinaikos player:
"I hope the club will start the New Year on the right foot too. I am really happy to have scored this goal. I thought I had open space in front of me, I could therefore carry the ball and move forward. I thought this was the right move and I was really glad I scored this goal. I felt really nice and immediately thought I wanted to dedicate it to the people closest to me who were in the stands; and we of course celebrated it with my teammates who all came to hug me."
On the best goal award of the 16th matchday:
"I am really honoured to be receiving this award. I wish to thank my teammates, my coach, all staff members and my coaches in the Academy."
On whether he wishes to win a greater prize at the end of the season:
"I hope all will go well and that we will celebrate at the end."
Mr Samios pointed out the following:
On Chouchoumis receiving the best goal award of the 16th matchday:
"Diamantis is also coming from the Academy and he is a good lad. He has been with us for many years and I am really happy and honoured to be presenting this award to him. He seems to be improving with every passing day."
On whether he was surprised by the fact that Chouchoumis scored using his right foot:
"Of course not. Diamantis uses his right foot a lot. Both his feet are good, I am therefore not surprised. He made a really nice move, moved the ball to his right foot and we saw what happened. He scored a really nice goal; I wish to congratulate Diamantis and the team once again."
