The Best Goal award of the 28th matchday was awarded to Asael Ben Shabat playing for Panthrakikos, who topped the competition organised by Super League, the Panhellenic Association of Professional Players (PSAP) and NOVA. The award was presented by Mr Vaios Koudoumakis, CEO of the Distillery-Winery of Thrace SA.
After the ceremony, the Panthrakikos player stated: "I am really happy to have scored this goal thus helping my club win the three points. The odds to score a goal like this are 1 in a million and I was lucky enough to score it. Of course I am happy.
I wish to thank my teammates and my coaches that made me feel comfortable in Komotini since my first minute here. I also wish to thank the fans that also helped vote this goal as best goal of the matchday, with a difference of only 1% from Chávez's goal, which was also a beautiful goal. My friends from Israel also helped by voting for the goal. This is my first personal award and I wish to dedicate it to my parents and my wife."
On the importance of the win against Ergotelis and the future of the championship, he said: "Winning these points against Ergotelis allowed us to secure our non-relegation and we now are looking at the remaining matches; we will try to amass as many points as possible and to remain in the sixth spot of the table."
As regards the next match against Olympiacos, he stated: "The match against Olympiacos will be a difficult match; if Olympiacos wins, then they also clinch the title. We have proven that we fight every match and that we play to win. We will try the same in Saturday's match as well and we will see what we can manage."
Mr Koudoumakis stated the following: "We are happy that Asael's goal was voted as best goal of the matchday; it would be unfair if this didn't happen since it was a gorgeous goal. At the same time, this goal is also very important because it helped Panthrakikos secure its staying in the league and the team can now plan its moves for next season.
Our company, based in Rodopi, will continue supporting Panthrakikos and I wish all the players and coaches good health."
