The MVP award of the 16th matchday was awarded to Apostolos Vellios playing for Iraklis, who topped the competition organised by Super League Greece, the Panhellenic Association of Professional Players (PSAP) and NOVA. The award was presented by Mr Yannis Livadopoulos, among the sponsors of the Club.
After the ceremony, the Iraklis player stated:
"The love of the fans gives me the power to persist and to improve with every passing matchday. Of course every award is unique. I wish to dedicate this one to my team because football is a team sport and I wouldn't be here today, to be receiving this award, had it not been for my teammates.
Every player, and in particular the striker, wishes to score when given the opportunity. I scored 3 goals in this particular match that nevertheless were the result of team effort and I will once again say that these awards give me courage and confidence for a better future."
On whether Iraklis could have been awarded more penalties: "Yes, okay, there were several cases in previous matches when a penalty could have been awarded to us, however this is football. Besides, you may lose the penalty kick too, it's not certain that it will be successful. I always try for the best. I try to be as much focused as possible in every moment and this is how we will all go on."
On whether he would exchange his awards with Iraklis winning a place in the first five positions of the rankings: "Of course. I want my team to go as high as possible. Our big target is to be in the top five places. There are 7 matches left and we will see what the final tally is."
On the future of the campaign and the effort of Iraklis to win one of the first five places in the rankings: "We have a quite difficult schedule ahead of us. We said the same thing in the last few days and you saw that we achieved two positive results in 2 successive derbies. We need to be even more focused. We should keep our feet firmly on the ground. Today, we will start preparing for the next match against Atromitos in Peristeri. This is the only thing on our mind. Nothing else."
