Adidas Brazuca, the official match ball of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, will be the official match ball of the 2nd round of the Super League OPAP 2013/14 Championship. The special brazuca edition for the Super League will bear its logo and will first appear on the pitch on the 18th matchday to be held on January 04, 2014. All clubs started receiving the new ball from Adidas, right after its official presentation, so that footballers can familiarise with it before the beginning of the second round of the Championship.
Brazuca took its name in September 2012 following a vote with over one million football fans voting. "Brazuca" in local lingo means "Brazilian" and is used to describe the Brazilian way of life. The colours of the ball and its ribbon panel design symbolise the traditional multi-coloured wish bracelets worn in the country (fita do Senhor do Bonfim da Bahia) and represent the joyful and merry way with which Brazilians approach football.
For 2.5 years, brazuca was tested by 600 top footballers and 30 clubs in 10 countries across 3 continents, making it the most tested ball ever by Adidas and confirming its suitability in all conditions. Clubs involved in testing of the ball included AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Palmeiras and Fluminese; also, players involved in the process included footballers Leo Messi, Iker Casillas, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Zinedine Zidane. The ball was tested with a different print design in official matches during the FIFA U-20 World Cup, and was also used in the friendly match between Sweden and Argentina in February 2013.
The technology of brazuca is based on Tango 12 (UEFA Euro 2012), Cafusa (FIFA Confederations Cup 2013) as well as the popular official match ball used in UEFA Champions League. Additionally, the new structural innovation of the six symmetrical panels alongside the different surface structure, offer it an enhanced touch, grip, stability and aerodynamics on the pitch. Brazuca has been thoroughly checked in order to meet and overcome the FIFA specifications regarding the official match balls used in its competitions and to secure top performance in all conditions.
